Parents, are you aware of any safety hazards associated with sandbox sand?

I found out there were small metal flecks in my children's colored sand and had my husband remove it all.Parents, are you aware of any safety hazards associated with sandbox sand?
Not normally any safety hazards. There can be health concerns since cats use them for litter boxes if not covered when not in use. Probably other insects and such that can make a home in the sand.Parents, are you aware of any safety hazards associated with sandbox sand?
there are not any health hazards. sand is made up of mica (which might have looked like metal to you in the sun), silicate, ground rock and small amounts of iron.

the only drawback to a sand box is the neighborhood cats, who like to use it as a toilet.

i had the chipped bark put in under my children's playset and then, had it removed, since it caused splinters. the dog kept the cats out of the yard, but on occasion, i had to rake the sand.

you can purchase bags of play ground sand at the store and it is not harmful.
A lot of children get worms from their sand boxes, so remember to deworm about every six months or so ( which you would normally do with pets)

There are also sand fleas which can bite the children. It will only be a normal bite mark unless your child is allergic ( which my sister is ) and then it can become quiet nasty.
