Me and 3 of my friends are planning on moving into a house together and we're all wondering how much people generally spend on monthly bills like gas, electric, water, sewage and trash removal.
As for the size of the house, we haven't found one yet, but our minimum requirements are 4 bedrooms, 2 or 3 bathrooms a living room and kitchen in the Northern Virginia area.
We welcome ALL help in estimating what the monthly bills will run us.
Thanks!I'm moving out of my parents house. How much should I expect to pay in utilities?
I rent a 1600sq foot house (Cape May County NJ), 2 bedroom 2 bath, living room, dining room, family room, kitchen and laundry room.
Verizon triple plan for phone satellite and dsl $140/mo
Gas heat is $200/mo (winter only)
Electric is $160/mo in winter $200 plus in summer because of A/C and the pool we have and use on weekends.
No water bill because it has a well/septic system but we have it inspected once a year at $75 and have to add solar salt to the inside filter tank thing every 6 mos and that stuff is $150 for a 3 year supply.
Property owner responsible for taxes which is for school, trash, etc.
This is a single home not a condo or town home so no homeowner or association fee. Rent itself is ridiculous (1200/mo).
Plus annual renters insurance $114. Good to have in case of break-in, fire, or other freak accidents not covered by homeowner insurance....I'm moving out of my parents house. How much should I expect to pay in utilities?
Depends on if you have a place that includes all utilties or not.
Where I live currently, I don't pay heat or electric. Normally sewage, trash, and water are included in a rental unit.
When dealing with the cable company, if they offer you a deal, always ask for how long the deal is for, and how much the package will cost after the deal is over.
I pay 65 a month for just uber basic cable and high speed internet with my cable company.
I would recommend when you call the utility company for the electric and gas, ask to be put on the budget plan. Therefore you won't get an uber scary bill every month, since they base what you owe them on what the previous renter paid for that month.
Good luck with the hunt! Don't forget about www.craigslist.org%26lt;=for all your renting needs!
well here is mine, and this is total bills so you would split it i assume, and my house is only 2 rooms so it might be a little more:
trash $24/month flat fee
Gas: $120/ month winter average
electric: $60/ month average
Water: $90/ month average
i dont have a sewage to pay
but also keep in mind cable, phone (if you wan landline), internet, etc.
Before choosing a house or apartment check with the landlord to see if they get a discount with your light company. More than likely your landlord can receive a 5% discount on light bill. I have a 3 bedroom 2 bath house with the 5% discount I pay about $125 month. I live in North Carolina.
I live in NY so it's more expensive, but I have trio plan for internet, cable and phone and that is $110 a month and my electric is about $90 and that's in a one bedroom.
I pay 80ish for electric 80ish for gas about 100 for cable/internet and water is free here sewage/trash are usually rather small ammounts
