What happens to infants if their parent(s) is/are unable to provide sufficient care for them?

This is for a commentary on abortion for english class. Specifically infants, not young children or toddlers. I'd like to know all the possible situations that could happen please. What happens to infants if their parent(s) is/are unable to provide sufficient care for them?
Children that cannot be supported by their parents are taken care of by the Department of Social Welfare. What happens to infants if their parent(s) is/are unable to provide sufficient care for them?
Financal or physical?? Are they neglecting the child or simply too poor to care for him/her??

If it is solely financial, there are some social services available to the child...specifically WIC until the child is 5 years old. Generally speaking, this isn't an issue of 'neglect' by itself. If, however, the child is underweight/under-nourished, or if there are other circumstances involved, the child will be removed from care, placed into foster care or a group home until a suitable placement can be found. Generally, the first option and best option is to find another family member to care for that child. Sometimes, that can't be an option. Healthy white infants have a waiting list of adoptive parents waiting in line for a white baby. Black and Hispanic infants are generally harder to place and often stay in foster care/group homes for far longer. They are paid for by the state (taxes) and---even if adopted, they are given monthly stipends and medicaid until the age of 18.
What hsd abortion got to do with what happens to infants ,when the parents cannot take care of them ?

Do you mean ,it is better to abort ??? I do not know what you are trying to discuss.

women can always contact an adoption agency while they are pregnant and they can interview the adoptive parents and pick who they like .
The children suffer unless someone notices and reports the parent to the authorities. Suffering is more frequent.

After that they try to work with the parent to fix it (like what is happening with octomom) Foster care is the last resort. Adoption isn't something the courts will force very often.

If you are doing a report about what would happen to the children if abortion wasn't an option you would need to go back to the days prior to roe v. wade and the orphanages.
