How much should I pay my parents for watching my daughter?

My daughter is 2 years old. I'm currently working fulltime in the evening and am looking for a partime on daytime to make ends meet. The issue is that I watch my daughter in the morning while my wife works and will leave her with my parents every now and then when I finally find a partime. What would be considered a decent pay? They agreed to babysit her just to help me out, but I want to help them too with something. How much should I pay them? How much should I pay my parents for watching my daughter?
I'd go with enough to cover her food costs to feed your daughter while she's there, and maybe a little extra for some fun outings. Generally grandparents don't expect to be paid the going rate. But, you should sit down with them and find out the ground rules before you go ahead and assume anything. How much should I pay my parents for watching my daughter?
That's a good question. I have a 7 month old and my mom sometimes watches her. What pisses me off is sometimes she acts like I am suppose to pay her. Since you are on a fixed budget yourself and since she doesn't expect I would say when you get some money just say I know it's not much but you could probably use some pocket money and Give her maybe 25 to 40 bucks, whatever is good for you. She should just appreciate the gesture because I am sure she understands that you don't really have it to give to her.
SweetJune:one should never assume the grandparents or any family will watch your child for free. You would normally have to pay someone to do it, so why would family be any different? Unless of course they decline any payments, but I would still provide snacks and maybe a gift card. Something to show how much you appreciate it.

As soon as I went back to work, I paid my mother 100 a week to care for my newborn. She didnt want me to pay her, but I insisted.
If your parents are like my in-laws, they won't accept payment outright.

What i do is, every now and again, i'll buy them a dvd, or chocolate, something they'll appreciate, and say it's from our son, not from us.
as a grandmother i would never take money for watching my babies, but my daughter always gets me gift card once a month for my fav. store.. and she doesn't have to that but she does.. i usually buy toys for the kids to keep at my house
wow. that is very generous of you. i always thought the benefit of grandparents babysitting was that the cost is free.

but it's nice of you to compensate them... i'd say between $10 and $15 an hour maybe?
my sister-in-law pays her parents 400 a month..which i think is pretty good pay..but it also depends on what you are able to give..give what comes from the heart without hurting the pocket
