I really want a shitzu but my parents are soo against it. What do i say to convince them?

Im still young but i really think i can take care of a dog. It's not the old ill take care of it and then make my parents do all of the work. I really would take care of it. What do i say?I really want a shitzu but my parents are soo against it. What do i say to convince them?
Your parents have to think about how old will the dog be when you go off to college...

Your parents have to think about the cost of maintaining a dog for around 14 yrs...

This may not be all about what you want hon... you have to convince them that getting a dog is in their best interest.

I know cause I had my sons dog left with me when he went off to college... Over 4 yrs of my life was spent raising the Puppy he got just one year before going off to school - He coulda promised me a cruise??? heehee

Kids - you are all great

Can you assume full responsability for the dog?

Buy its food? %26amp; food %26amp; water dishes? Can you pay for all it's shots %26amp; Vet visits? Can you pay to have it spayed/neutered?

With in the first year you can expect to pay any where between $200 %26amp; $500.

If you can do all this %26amp; more, tell your parents that you will take full charge of the dog %26amp; not ask for any help from them.
hey, i was in a situation once too... and my dad was soooo convinced by my reason that he bought me 5 dogs...

so here's the reason y u want a dog (reason 'll b applied only if you don't have any brother or sister):

';plz dad get me cute little sweet shitzu... plz dad, plz mom... look u r out on work, and i'm left alone at home... if i'll have a dog i wld have a best friend with me all the time... plz mom get m a dog... i promise i'll take care of it. really, it'll never seem to u that the dog is even in home... plz...!!!';

if they agree... throw a party and if they don't, quietly go away saying softly-';i just wanted a best friend!!!';

if ur parents are soft hearted, they'll get u one and if they won't... huh... have fun with your basketball.
I am sorry to say but I agree with your parents. Shitzus are a handful. I own a pet hotel %26amp; all 42 that frequent my hotel potty indoors %26amp; it is a serious problem. Several bite or snap, they can be very persnicketty. Shitzu are overbred %26amp; have many problems as a result, including behavior. They are also prone to eye problems, blindness, abscess, infection. They are very cute, but hard to train. Perhaps you can ask your parents if you can get one that has at least basic training or look into another, easier breed of dog.
Stop telling them, show them. Try doing extra chores around the house. Maybe get a part time job, to show you will help pay for the dogs food and toys.

Talk is cheap... show your parents that you will be responsible for the animal.
First i would find out why they are against you getting a dog or just this particular breed. maybe you can offer to do some chores around the house to show you are responsible enough to look after a pet. And even do some research on this particular breed, just to show you are really keen and its not a faze you'll go through for the first month or while its a pup. good luck...
Maybe santa will get it for you. Dogs are expensive, maybe your parents aren't up to the vet bills yet.

Give them some time to let it sink into their brains.

Tell you mom that you want to go to the animal shelter and just take a look around.
say,'; at least i don't want a pit bull. so be happy about that.';
not sure of you age but i have worked with shitzu and all other breeds and shitzu and very head strong and may not be the breed for you. talk to you parents and just ask if i start helping and showing i can take care of my self would you reconsider you descion and lets discuss the options of us getting a dog a small dog and give it 3 months and dont bug them about it petsit for neighbors animails ask you parents can i start a pet sitting service and you be responible for that pet. good luck and hope are advice works. this worked for my niece when she was 13 she now has two great dogs
Shih Tzu are nice dogs

They take a lot of care, more than most dogs

I keep my Shih Tzu with a puppy cute. I need to get her groomed every 6 weeks. It's about 45 dollars each time

You might look into Shih Tzu poodle mix, they are easier to keep
I have 4 of the little monsters %26amp; you might want to think about another breed as your first dog. They need constant grooming %26amp; I don't mean once a week, I mean daily. They are very persistent(stubborn), can be hard to housetrain, are escape artists,will get into everything in the world %26amp; not just as puppies. They are a hoot to have around simply because they never know what to do next, but this can drive you crazy. My youngest one. Louie, just loves to sit in the window %26amp; bark at the shed, for absolutely no reason.
If your parents are resistant to your getting a dog, it's good to talk about it with them. Dogs are a huge responsibility. Is it possible that you may have shown your parents that you were not responsible in the past?

Volunteering for a rescue group (find them on http://www.petfinder.com) will help your cause, as well as teach you about dog behavior and management. Good luck!
